It was just a few short weeks ago that the New York Jets were flying high atop the AFC East with serious talk of a Super Bowl chance. Now, after two straight losses, the division is wide open with the Jets, Dolphins and Patriots tied at 8-5. Buffalo is two games back at 6-7.

This week the Jets host the Buffalo Bills. In week 9, New York beat the Bills in Buffalo off Aram Elam's 92-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Even with their recent slide, the Jets still remain in the best position to take the division crown. New York owns the best record in the division (3-1) and are likely to be favored in each of their final three games, Buffalo this week, in Seattle next and the home against Miami. If the Jets can win out and finish 11-5, they would hold the tie-breaker with New England.

Sunday, the Patriots head out west to take on the Raiders amidst tragedy.
New England quarterback Matt Cassel had left the team to join his family following the death of his father. Obviously, the Patriots will take a hit this weekend. Cassel's teammates expressed sentiments of support and sorrow.

"Matt is more than just a teammate to me," said running back Sammy Morris. "His loss is our loss."

There is no official word on Cassel's status for Sunday's game, but the Boston Globe is reporting that Matt Cassel has returned to the team and is preparing for Sunday.

Finally, the Dolphins have rebounded from their 1-15 season of a year ago. Sunday, Miami host's the San Francisco 49ers and hope to keep pace with the rest atop the East. The Dolphins get a hot 49ers team that has won 3 of their last four, including a 24-14 over the Jets last week.

Odds are the winner of the AFC East will have to win out and with Indianapolis and Baltimore both at 9-4, only a division title will get into the postseason.
