The polls have been tallied and the computers have made their calculations. The University of Oklahoma and the University of Florida will play for college football's national title after finishing atop the season's final Bowl Championship Series standings.
This year's final bowl game in Miami, the BCS championship game is scheduled for Jan. 8.
With 12-1 records, both Oklahoma and Florida beat out the other five one-loss teams from the six BCS conferences and two undefeated non-BCS schools to finish 1-2 in the standings.
The Sooners won the Big 12 championship yesterday with a 62-21 victory over Missouri, while the Gators defeated previously undefeated and no. 1-ranked Alabama 31-20 in the Southeastern Conference title game.
Oklahoma took over the no. 1 spot in the BCS standings with Alabama's loss and Florida climbed up two spots, jumping Texas, from no. 4 to no. 2.
"You never know when it's out of your control," said Florida coach Urban Meyer about getting a chance to play for the national championship. "But I felt fairly confident after beating no. 1 Alabama."
The Texas Longhorns are the only team to beat the Sooners this year. They finished third in the standings and will face off with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl. After losing to Florida, Alabama dropped to no. 4 and will take on the Utah Utes in the Sugar Bowl.
In this season's other two BCS bowls; the University of Southern California Trojans will play in the Rose Bowl against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Finally, the ACC Champion Virginia Tech Hokies will play the Big East Champion Cincinnati Bearcats in the Orange Bowl.
