New York Giants After their dominating win against Arizona, the Philadelphia Eagles head to East Rutherford, NJ to take on the defending Super Bowl champion New York Gants. Odds makers are calling the Giants home favorites against their NFC East rival. NFL betting odds have New York at -7 with the total sitting at 43.
At 11-1, the Giants will clinch the NFC East title and a first-round bye in the playoffs with a win against the Eagles. This week New York has an opportunity to match the 1970 Minnesota record of seven consecutive victories against teams with winning records. Over that span, the Giants outscored the opposition 180-77 in winning six straight at Giants Stadium.
The biggest news out of New York has been the loss of wide receiver Plaxico Burress after he accidentally shot himself in the right thigh with a handgun he brought to a Manhattan nightclub last weekend. Burress was charged with two counts of illegal weapons
"When you lose a player of Plaxico's ability, it is incumbent that everybody step up and fill the void," coach Tom Coughlin said. "In the last two seasons, this team has done an outstanding job of that."
The Eagles likely need to win out their remaining games to have any shot of making the playoffs. A week ago against the Cardinals was a good start. In the wake of a week filled with controversy over the benching of starting quarterback Donovan McNabb, the Eagles beat Arizona 48-20 on Thanksgiving.
McNabb threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns in the Eagles impressive win. Running back Brian Westbrook rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns and caught two more scores from McNabb.
The Giants have not proven to show many weaknesses, and the Eagles have been an up and down team this year. Philadelphia has some momentum and will likely be playing with confidence. Take the Eagles getting the 7 points, this one will be close.
