Shaun Hill has been promoted to the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback, replacing turnover-prone J.T. O'Sullivan in interim head coach Mike Singletary's first big personnel move.

The 49ers named Shaun Hill the team's quarterback for its November 10th matchup against the Cardinals in Arizona.

With J.T. O'Sullivan as the starter, San Francisco's went 2-6 through the first eight games. New 49ers head coach Mike Singletary stepped in for the fired Mike Nolan last Tuesday. Singletary made the announcement on Monday after consoling with offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

"I looked at the film. We talked about it a bit last night, we got together this morning and after looking at the film, really felt like Shaun Hill would be the best quarterback going
forward," said Singletary. "We know exactly what Shaun Hill is. He's very consistent, very professional and very steady."

During O'Sullivan's first stretch as starter he completed 128-of-219 passes for 1,678 yards and eight touchdowns, but had 11 interceptions. He also lost six fumbles. Hill started two games last season and played in a total of three for the 49ers. He was 54-of-79 for 501 yards and five touchdowns, with only one pick. Hill was 15-of-23 in this past Sunday's 34-13 loss to Seattle for 173 yards with one touchdown.

"It's great to have the support of the head coach and the rest of the staff," said Hill. "I know to a man on that team nobody wants to let him down. We are all in this thing together and trying to get it turned around."

San Francisco has a bye this upcoming weekend before heading to Arizona.
