San Diego Chargers The AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills will be trying to get back on track this week as they return home to take on the high-powered San Diego Chargers, who are looking for their fourth win in five games. Odds maker call this game even with the total set at 44 1/2.
Despite a 41-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinal on October 5, the 4-1 Bills are off to a surprising start due to in no small part to the play of quarterback Trent Edwards and a defense that, before the Arizona game, was giving up a mere 15.6 points per game. But in Arizona, Edwards left the game after three plays with a concussion, and Buffalo's backup J.P. Losman turned the ball over three times and the Bills had four turnovers in all.
"It was bad. We just played bad in every phase of the game," safety Donte Whitner said. "We know that we can't play that way anymore. And I don't think you'll see that again."
With Edwards expected to return to the line-up, the Bills should be in a better position to be successful against a good San Diego team.
"I'm happy and excited that I'm out there
Edwards has gone 81-of-122 for 948 yards, completing over 65 % of his passes and has a passer rating of 93.9.
With Chargers Pro-Bowl running back LaDainian Tomlinson hobbled by a toe injury and having limited effectiveness, San Diego has had to put the season on the shoulders of quarterback Philip Rivers. The fifth-year quarterback has come through. Rivers has the league's highest passer rating (109.4) and is tied for the NFL lead, throwing 14 touchdowns.
"I think it was obviously good to play well," said Rivers after the Chargers got their first win. "It was important mainly just to get a win. I think it's like this not just in offensive consistency or anything as a team, it's a week-to-week thing. You've got to gear up and do it again."
The Chargers started 0-2 and have won three out of their last four. Look for them to stay on a roll. Take the Chargers on the road.
