Saturday afternoon, the 3rd ranked Penn State Nittany Lions will be looking remain unbeaten and end a nine game losing streak against the Michigan Wolverines in Happy Valley. Odds makers are calling Penn State a 24 1/2 point favorite with the total sitting at 47.

The 7-0 Nittany Lions won three in a row over the Wolverines from 1994-1996, but hasn't beaten them since. That gives legendary coach Joe Paterno a 3-10 record against Big Ten rival Michigan.

"It's not a mental thing," Paterno said of the Wolverines' streak against Penn State. "We had a couple tough ballgames that could go either way. I don't think it's a psychological thing at all."

This season, the two storied programs find themselves moving in completely different directions. Penn State
has destroyed the competition, winning their first seven games by an average of more than 34 points. The Lions are coming off their most impressive win of the season, a dominating 48-7 victory over Wisconsin on the road.

"This was a statement game for us," Nittany Lions quarterback Daryll Clark after throwing for 244 yards and a touchdown and running for two more scores. "People still don't believe we can do this."

Michigan, meanwhile, at 2-4 has lost two in a row to Toledo and Illinois and has the worst offense in the Big Ten, averaging a little less than 19 points per game.

"I'm just extremely disappointed and embarrassed," said Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.

Penn State will end their losing streak against the Wolverines and continue to roll. Take the Nittany Lions and give the 24 1/2 points.
