Saturday night under the lights of Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, the 6-0 Texas Longhorns will look to remain undefeated and protect their first regular-season No. 1 ranking since 1984 against the Missouri Tigers. The no. 11 ranked Tigers will be trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season last week at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

"Right now, this team would be known for heart and character and toughness," said Texas coach Mack Brown. "Everybody has questioned this team, including me. I didn't know how good we are."

Texas is apparently good enough to be ranked no. 1, but not without help from across the country. Texas jumped over three top-five teams that lost last weekend, including Missouri. After losing to the Cowboys, Missouri has dropped to no. 11.

"Put it all on me," said
Tigers quarterback Chase Daniel. "I should have made all of those throws. It seemed like we were a little bit off all night. For the reason, I have no idea."

Even with the loss, Missouri is still a top contender for the Big 12 title. They know that a win over the top-ranked team in the country could go a long way toward determining how things shake out for Missouri at the end of the regular season.

"You look at all the so-called title contenders, and we're right outside the Top 10," Daniel said. "At the end of the year it means something. We know we have a huge, huge test ahead of us."

We Texas clearly in the driver seat in a quest for a BCS Title. The Longhorns will need to beat Missouri for the fifth straight time. They have won the last four meetings with the Tigers by an average of 23 points, Texas is 5-1 against Missouri since the the Big 12's inaugural 1996 season.
