No. 1 Ranked Longhorns
For the second weekend this season, the NCAA has seen three teams in the top five lose.

With Missouri and LSU losing along with the Texas Longhorns 45-35 win in the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma, the Longhorns moved right past No. 2 Alabama (idle) to sit atop the Top 25 poll. Texas received 39 first-place votes and 1,599 points from the media panel. Alabama received the other 36 first-place votes and 1,582 points.

Texas' jump to No. 1 is the largest since Miami went from No. 6 to No. 1 in 1988, after beating preseason top-ranked Florida State 31-0 to start the season.

"Being ranked No. 1 shows respect for what we've accomplished through the early part of the season, but nobody really knows who is No. 1 at this point," Texas coach Mack Brown said Sunday.

After
a second straight week in the press box with an injury, Coach Paterno's unbeaten Penn State Nittany Lions move up to the 3rd spot with a convincing 48-7 in Madison against the Wisconsin Badgers. This was another strong outing asserting the Nittany Lions place among the nation's top teams.

"We certainly deserve to be considered," Paterno said.

Rounding out the top five, the Sooners drop to no. 4 with their loss to Texas. Finally, the Florida Gators with a big 51-21 win against the LSU Tigers, move up to the 5th spot with impressive defense.

"That might be one of our best defenses performances in recent history," Gators coach Urban Meyer said. "Our defense really answered the bell against the run."
