After breaking into the Top 25 the 5-0 UConn Huskies have been dealt a serious blow. According to team sources their senior quarterback Tyler Lorenzen will be out 6-8 weeks.

UConn coach Randy Edsall announced Monday that quarterback Tyler Lorenzen, who broke his right foot in Friday's victory over Louisville, will miss six to eight weeks because of the injury.

Tight end Steve Brouse, also suffered a broken leg, will be out for six to eight weeks as well.

The 24th ranked Huskies' 26-21 win at Louisville gave it a 5-0 start for the second consecutive season. Before 2007, the Huskies had not started 5-0 since 1995 when they won their first six games under coach Skip Holtz.

Sophomore
back-up Zack Frazer is expected to start in place of Lorenzen. Against the Cardinals, Frazer threw for 90 yards and a touchdown, but Donald Brown, the nation's leading rusher, did most of the work. The junior tailback carried the ball 33 times for 190 yards and has also complied 906 yards and 11 touchdowns so far in 2008.

Before the injury, Lorenzen was 52-of-90 for 551 yards and one touchdown this season. He threw for 2,367 yards and 13 touchdowns a year ago as a junior.

As bad as a injury of this magnitude is for UConn, they silver lining may be that the Huskies should be able to stretch the field a little more with Frazer under center. This may stop teams from putting 8 and 9 in the box to stop the run.
