Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett will replace Linehan as interim coach. Haslett was the coach of the New Orleans Saints until the end of the 2005 season, and joined the Rams on Linehan's first staff in 2006.

In regards to Linehan's firing, Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom released this official statement,

"I have enormous respect for Scott Linehan as a person and believe under the right circumstances he we be regarded one day as a fine head coach. Unfortunately, the situation with the Rams as they exist today is no longer acceptable and we have to make a change."

Rosenbloom did not waste any time making the move. This was probably the best time to do it as the Rams head into there bye week.

Linehan knew his job was on the line, having been put on notice by Rosenbloom. On Sunday, he benched quarterback Marc Bulger, the highest-paid player in franchise history, and started 38-year-old backup Trent Green. He emptied the playbook, going for it on fourth downs and using a number of trick plays.

None of it worked.
