Texans vs Jaguars The Jacksonville Jaguars earned their first victory a week ago to move to 1-2. The Jaguars dominating rushing attack and a late field goal helped them avoid an 0-3 start. This week the Jags host the Houston Texans in what should be an interesting match-up. Odds makers call Jacksonville a 7 point favorite and set the total at 43.
Against the Colts, the Jaguars finally got their ground game going with 236 yards rushing. Fred Taylor's 121 yards on 26 carries and Maurice Jones-Drew's 107 yards on 19 carries had the Jags looking like the team that pounded the football down opponents' throats last year.
"There's certain things that we believe in," said Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio. "We want to run the football. Running the football allows us to posses the ball, allows us to get the ball in
If the Jags can continue to control their games on the ground, it should open up the passing game for struggling quarterback David Garrard. Thus far, Garrard has averaged less than 200 yards per game and has thrown 4 interceptions to just 1 touchdown.
Last week against the Titans, Houston was just 3-of-15 on third down and quarterback Matt Schaub was just 17 for 37 for 188 yards and 3 interceptions. Texans coach Gary Kubiak has announced that rookie running back Steve Slaton will make his first career start this week. Slaton gained 116 yard on 18 carries and 1 touchdown against the Titans.
This game will be decided in the trenches; on defense and on the ground. The Jaguars have better running backs and a better defense. Take the Jags and give the 7 points at home.
