When the New York Giants play the Seattle Seahawks after their bye week, they will be without the services of their dynamic wide-out Plaxico Burress. The Giants have suspended the star receiver for two weeks for not showing up for work on Monday and not responding to several phone calls.

Burress met with Giants team officials early this morning to explain his whereabouts and why he violated team rules. Details of the meeting have not yet been disclosed, but apparently whatever excuse Burress used was not good enough for Giants head coach Tom Coughlin.

"The suspension is for violating team rules and he will
be back on October 6th," Giants General Manager Jerry Reese told reporters. "I'm not going to tell you guys anything else. It is what it is." Reese did say, when asked about Plaxico's well-being, "He's fine."

The suspension means that the Giants Pro Bowl receiver will miss out on two weeks worth of pay and next week's game against Seattle.

So far in 2008, Burress has hauled in an impressive 18 catches for 259 yards and one touchdown. A season ago, he caught 70 passes for 1,025 yards and 12 touchdowns while playing on a severely injured ankle. Burress has gone over the 1,000 yard mark four times in his career, two with the Giants and two with the Steelers.
