Philadelphia Eagles Eagles coach Any Reid, in his weekly press conference, updated the status of running back Brian Westbrook and quarterback Donovan McNabb. Reid calls Westbrook's ankle injury a strain, and lists his star running back as day-to-day. As for McNabb, Reid told reporters that the Pro Bowl quarterback has a contusion on his upper chest.
Westbrook went down on the first play from scrimmage in the second quarter, after landing awkwardly on his right ankle. Westbrook, after receiving a hand-off from McNabb, carried for two yards before hurdling a fallen lineman. He rolled his right ankle as he landed on his teammate's leg with his left foot. He left the field under his own power and did not return.
X rays were negative and an MRI on Monday showed no ligament damage. Coach Reid and team doctors will assess Westbrook's ankle as the week progresses to determine his status for Sunday night's game against the Chicago Bears.
"He is limping around without the crutches," Reid said. "I guess that is positive."
McNabb is expected to be 100 percent against the Bears after leaving the field and missing five offensive plays. After taking the hit on the final play of the first quarter, injuring his chest, McNabb's effectiveness clearly took a hit. When he returned, he was 8-of-16 for just 49 yards.
"He's sore today," Reid said of his 10-year veteran QB. "I think he'll progressively get better as the week goes on."
