The 18th ranked Demon Deacons travel to Tallahassee to battle the 24th ranked Seminoles on Saturday night. There has been a lot of talk about this one all week since the Noles broke into the Top 25. The big question to be answered tonight is if the Seminoles are for real. Wake Forest comes into Doak Campbell Stadium as a 5 point underdog with the total set at 48.
Florida State still remembers the 30-0 shellacking Wake handed them the last time these two met at Doak. The Seminoles are now 2-0 after beating Western Carolina and Chattanooga by a combine score of 115-7. Florida State has looked impressive, but against subdivision teams. Florida State coach Bobby Bowden realizes that Wake Forest plays at a totally different level.
"This game will tell us a lot about us," said coach Bowden. " The word that comes to mind is trepidation. You'll have to look it up, I don't know what it means. But that's how I feel."
The 2-0 Demon Deacons play an intelligent, hard-nosed brand of football and were the preseason favorite to win the ACC. Wake Forest is fourth in the nation in take-away ratio having forced eight turnovers in just two games. This week they will feed on Seminole mistakes if the Noles do not play perfect football. Deacons QB Riley Skinner might be the best in the ACC, and will pick apart the Seminoles secondary if they don't pressure him.
The Deacons have the edge on talent and experience, the Noles have the edge in all the intangibles. This one will be a tight, defensive battle. Take the under 48.
