The no. 6 ranked LSU Tigers face-off against no. 10 Auburn in a classic SEC West battle that is expected to be the most watched college game of the weekend. Odds makers are calling LSU a 2 1/2 point favorite as they travel to Auburn.
"It's an unbelievable scenario," says Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. "This is one of the best college football games of the last ten years. For some reason a lot of these other games get built up, but there's not been a better one year in and year out than the LSU-Auburn game."
If you like defense, the 2008 installment of this rivalry should not disappoint. This showdown will pit two national title-worthy defenses playing at the highest level. Auburn is coming off a 3-2 victory over Mississippi State in which the Tigers allowed only 116-yards of total offense against the Bulldogs. Mississippi State's only points coming off an Auburn penalty in the end zone.
LSU held North Texas to less than 200-yards of total offense and 3 points a week ago at Tiger Stadium. The dominant victory did come at a price however, LSU Starting LB Darry Beckwith left the game with a knee injury and will be out against Auburn.
"Certainly, it's serious but not a terribly serious injury," LSU coach Les Miles told reporters. "It's not something that will cost him the season."
Either LSU or the Auburn Tigers have been the West's representative in each of the last six SEC Championships. This Saturday could prove to decide this again.
This match-up is as even as they come, take Auburn at home getting the 2 1/2 points.
