Joe Paterno has been coaching the Penn State Nittany Lions for longer than many people in the united States have been alive. On Saturday, he was finally acknowledged for all of his contributions to the sport of college football.

Paterno was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, an honor that has been long overdue for the legendary coach. Still, while being inducted Paterno showed the class that has made him the icon that he is today.

"I think we're very privileged to belong to something that is as meaningful to young people as college football," said Paterno. "I've tried to be good for college
football. I'm not saying I've been the best coach. But I've worked hard to be good because I really love college football," he said.

Paterno will enter the season, his forty third as the Penn State head coach, only one win behind another legend still coaching, Bobby Bowden. Bowden holds the all time wins lead for major college football at 372.

While Paterno is still the Nittany Lions head coach, he has little assurance that he will be in that role beyond the 2008 season. Still, he has no plans of stepping down any time soon. At 81, it is amazing that he still has the same passion for the game as when he started coaching over four decades ago.
