In a statement just released by Jim Tressel, the Ohio State Buckeyes coach says that it is doubtful that starting running back Chris "Beanie" Wells will play Saturday against the top ranked USC Trojans.

After saying on Tuesday that Wells was good to go for Saturday, Coach Tressel said that lingering affects and soreness from Wednesday's work out kept Wells out of practice today.

Wells injured his right foot in 5th ranked Ohio State's opener against Youngstown State. Wells did not play in last weeks game against Ohio University and has not seen any contact since being injured. Even if Wells plays, if he is not 100%, it is questionable how affective he would be against the tough Trojan defense.

Team
officials say that they will be monitoring Wells' condition over the next two days before they decide whether or not to rule him out for Saturday. If, or how much Wells will play depends on his progress before Saturday night.

Chris "Beanie" Wells was on of the top prospects to come out of the 2006 recruiting class. He has compiled more than 2,200 total yard from scrimmage in his two full seasons at Ohio State. Wells pounded out 222 yard rushing last year against Michigan in the Buckeyes 14-3 victory in Ann Arbor. However, due to injury, Wells has not done anything in 2008.

Although he is listed as doubtful today, if Wells tells coaches that he feels well enough to go on Saturday night, it is unlikely that Jim Tressel will keep him out of the line-up against USC.
