Tennessee Titans The Tennessee Titans are expected to sign QB Doug Johnson to back-up Kerry Collins. A mist swirling speculation about Vince Young's status, physically and mentally, the Titans are now looking to Johnson. Tennessee signed Chris Simms earlier this week, but think Johnson may have a greater familiarity with the Titans offense under coach Mike Heimerdinger. Johnson would be the number 2 while Simms would be the number 3 QB.
Johnson was with Tennessee in 2004 when Heimerdinger was the team's offensive coordinator. Heimerdinger left the Titans in '05, but returned this season to head the offense again. Johnson was brought in to tryout when Vince Young was injured during Sunday's win over Jacksonville. While the Titans signed Simms first, they were reportedly close to a deal with Johnson. He is expected to sign
With Young's status not entirely clear, team sources say that they will likely carry all four QB's for a time while Simms learns the offense.
Vince Young has an MCL sprain in his left and will be out for up to four weeks. Titans coach Jeff Fisher said on Tuesday that he is only ruling Young out for this Sunday's game in Cincinnati. The big question is Young's mental state. After being booed by his home fans Sunday, after an interception, the 2006 Rookie of the Year did not want to go back in the game until prodded by his coach.
After Young's disappearing act on Monday, where the Titans reportedly had to involve police to find him, Felicia Young, Vince's mother said her son needs some space.
"It is hard, all he is going through right now. He is hurting inside and out, he just needs a lot of love and support."
